 | Glen Loy Lodge is a small, privately owned Fort William hotel, located by the banks of the beautiful River Loy in a secluded glen close to the Caledonian Canal and Great Glen Way. From the hotel we have spectacular views of the north face of Ben Nevis. The lodge is set in one acre of wooded grounds with a sheltered and sunny courtyard. There are lovely established rhododendrons which flower throughout spring and early summer. The surrounding forest is home to pine martens which you may be lucky to catch a glimpse of them. This area is also noted for the rare Chequered Skipper butterflies and annual visits by a flock of Scottish Crossbills. The Lodge is both a peaceful retreat and conveniently based for guests to access the amenities of Fort William. It is an excellent base for touring the North West Highlands directly from Fort William. Glen Loy is a good centre for walking and climbing, with many forest trails and Munros' locally. Pony trekking, cycling, skiing, white water canoeing and fishing are also popular in the area. We are happy to assist guests in making arrangements for sporting activities where possible. Glen Loy Lodge was built as a hunting and fishing lodge in the late 1920s and its construction reflects both the Art Deco period and the Modern Movement in architecture. Antique furnishings and details used throughout the hotel help to recreate the elegance and style prevalent in the early part of the twentieth century. We have eight en suite bedrooms, each individually decorated and furnished in the Scottish Arts and Crafts style. Two rooms are slightly larger and have distinctive corner windows overlooking the gardens. Room 45 is our most spacious room and has it's own bathroom making it ideal for families. Glen Loy Lodge is a smoke-free hotel in Fort William. We have a TV and a log-burning stove in the main lounge adjoining the popular sun lounge which is set for the main views of the Nevis range. There is full, adjustable central heating throughout the hotel. Dinner is served at the hotel five nights a week, we offer a small menu using fresh and locally sourced produce where possible and you are sure to find something to tempt your palate. Scottish venison and salmon are two of the things which you will find on our menu regularly. Our hearty breakfast includes fresh baking, fruit, cereals, yogurts and a traditional grilled/fried platter or smoked fish. A hot bowl of porridge is also available on request. Every season here is beautiful, in summer you will be greeted with lush green glens and abundant waterfalls, in the winter months there are the snow-covered peaks and a good chance of seeing red deer at close range as they come down from the hills in search of food. As there is rarely deep snow on the ground near the lodge access to the lodge in winter is not a problem. |
